Bangkok is a vibrant city that never ceases to amaze. It is home to towering skyscrapers, bustling markets, and world-renowned tourist attractions. But as a local, I know that there’s so much more to this city than what meets the eye. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing some of my favourite hidden gems that you won’t find in your typical travel guides. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a frequent flyer, prepare to discover the lesser-known side of Bangkok.
Bangkok is home to some of the best hotels in central Bangkok. One of my favourites is Center Point Thong Lor which is located in the trendy neighbourhood of Thonglor, home to some of Bangkok’s best bars and restaurants.
Another hidden gem that’s worth visiting is Bang Krachao. This lush green island is often referred to as the “green lung” of Bangkok, and for good reason. It’s a stark contrast to the bustling city and offers a peaceful and scenic escape. You can rent a bike and explore the island, stopping off at the floating markets and temples along the way.
If you’re a foodie, then you’ll love the hidden gem of Talat Rot Fai Srinakarin. This night market is located outside of the city centre, but trust me, it’s worth the trip. Here, you’ll find some of the best street food in Bangkok, along with unique vintage shopping stalls. It’s a hotspot for the locals, so you know you’re getting an authentic experience.
The Jim Thompson House is a true hidden gem in the heart of Bangkok. This beautiful museum was once the home of Jim Thompson himself, an American businessman who played an integral role in reviving the Thai silk industry. The house is now a museum that showcases Thompson’s collection of art and antique furnishings. It’s a peaceful oasis in the midst of the city, and is a must-visit for any history buffs.
Lastly, one of my favourite hidden gems in Bangkok has to be Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market. This market is located on the western outskirts of the city and is much quieter than some of the more popular markets like Chatuchak. Here, you can explore the canals by long-tail boat, sample local delicacies and shop for traditional Thai crafts.
